Its just less than 3 weeks to go till The Brighton Marathon, but first a quick update on the past training, and races. The routine has still been the same, but I have only run to work once since the last blog. The Grizzly was the next race. A group of us went down in convoy on the Saturday. Stopping of at the Heston Little Chief at Popham, for breakfast, then on to the River Cottage Canteen at Axminister for lunch. Then to Seaton, to meet the others at the Flat. The flat sleeps 6, and is only 5 minutes walk from the start of the race, so is a perfect location. We watched telly, relaxed, then went out to Rossini's for dinner. It an Italian, so perfect for carbo loading. That night I managed to get cramp in my right calf muscle, and the left one didn't feel much better. It was Sunday and the day of the race. No amount of straching would loosen off my calf's. Best to just get round then. I felt ok for the first half, and was running with Martin. Then I could feel my leg tightening up. That's not good. On the stairway to heaven my right calf cramped. so I had to take it slowly up the climb. Across the top my legs were ok, but as soon as I was climbing out of beer, the left one went. I did a bit more walking and it eased off. I did manage to run the rest. Finished in 3:20. Not too bad considering.
Sunday night was a curry, and far too much beer. Then back home on the Monday. I was always going to take it easy the next week, but I did even less than I was going to do, so that my legs could recover.
Next it was Fleet Half Marathon. I was not expecting much in the way of time. I set off at 6:30 miles, to get me round in about 1:25, but that was too fast, and my legs had not recovered, so I crossed the finish line in 1:28. Still not too bad, and still alot better than the last 2 years. Where I just blew up on the Half Marathons a week after the Grizzly.
I am back on the bike this week.
Now it's of for the AGM. I will have to give the Events report. Not looking forward to that.
Happy Running.
Dave.
